“Bold” predictions for 2021 color trends for your home

Baker Residential 2021 color trends

December 21, 2020

In 2020, we spent a lot of time at home—a LOT! Many of us were inspired to make our abodes more appealing. The easiest home makeover comes from a can of paint. But, like everything from appliances to home furnishings, the new year brings a new palette of stylish hues. Baker Residential stays on top of changes in design. We discovered some “bold” predictions for 2021 color trends for your home.

Sherwin Williams is going deep with their 2021 color trend choices, starting with their Color of the Year”: “Urbane Bronze”, a dark charcoal with hints of brown. The paint company is also introducing its Delightfully Daring Color Collection. This energetic palette pairs some jazzed-up neutrals with richer colors and bright variations—led by “Passionate”, a red tone that “is a bold take on an old favorite, evoking the simple, classic pleasures of watching the seasons change and sipping a glass of red wine.”

Behr is suggesting that we head deeper into our comfort zones, with 21 colors that create harmony and calm in your surroundings. There’s something for every taste in Behr’s 2021 color trends, from neutrals to bright splashes of colors like “Euphoric Magenta” and “Saffron Strands”.

If you want more color than neutral but aren’t quite ready to go bold, check out Valspar’s 2021 colors of the year. “Garden Flower” presents a gentle sage tone that hovers just above neutral. “Dusty Lavender” brings mauve back in a muted, welcoming shade. “Lucy Blue” is perfect for any decor, from coastal to classic.

Southern Living predicts that homeowners will be in search of “mood-boosting hues” in 2021. Look for splashes of color, but overall, “the needle seems to be moving in a more subdued direction.”

A color shift in cabinets

Next to the color on your walls, your kitchen cabinets contribute significantly to your decor and the feelings they evoke. While gray has grown in popularity here, get ready for some newcomers to kitchen design.

Gray will transition to “greige”, which is a warmer gray with beige undertones. The beauty of this unique color is that you can blend with either cool or warm colors in your walls, countertop, and backsplash.

Another incoming cabinet color trend is green. Your choice can fall anywhere along the spectrum of green—from sage to forest.

A combination of colors for kitchen cabinets remains a popular option. Choose a dark hue for the island and something lighter for the other cabinets. Or blend stained wood in one of these spaces with a color on the remainder.

Of course, you can never go wrong with white, which is still the most popular color for kitchen cabinets!
